90-year-old Korean War Veteran Olin Price had been wearing the same dentures for nearly 30 years. His daughter, Gidget Thompson, shares, “His teeth were sawed down years ago and the dentures placed on top. He has been needing his infected teeth extracted for a long time.”

After being referred to Affordable Dentures & Implants in Monroe, Olin received a special surprise from Dr. Ali Nili – the gift of free, SNAPSecure dentures to honor Olin on Veterans Day.

“We are speechless,” says Gidget. “My dad did not have the means or insurance to be able to have all of this dental work completed. This is something that he needs and something that is going to change his life."

“When I met Olin, his 30-year-old dentures had been sitting on top of multiple decayed and infected teeth,” explains Dr. Nili. “The dentures were ill-fitting and caused great discomfort for Olin. He is a 90-year-old Veteran on a highly limited budget, and he was just hoping to get our lowest priced denture.”

Dr. Nili adds, “I decided to not only cover the extractions of his teeth and new dentures but to place implants to secure his lower denture. These implants will allow Olin to live more comfortably than he has in years and transform his ability to eat. I wanted to do this as a special gift to express our gratitude to him for his honorable service and sacrifice.”

“This is going to help my dad’s overall health,” shares Gidget. “It means the world to our family to see my dad happy. This is a huge blessing.”

“This sounds like a dream getting ready to come true,” said George, who served on a Navy ship that made two trips to Vietnam during the war. “I don’t know what to compare this to except my wedding day!”

“My mouth feels so tired,” he explained. “I can’t remember the last time I chewed with my jaw bone.”

George added, “How lucky can I be to have this done for me? I am so thankful for this gift.”

More than 40 years ago, U.S. Army Veteran William Thomas, of Ninety Six, South Carolina, injured his mouth in a basic training accident. “After that, my gums deteriorated and I lost my teeth,” he explains. “I have been without my teeth for quite awhile.” William, who served from 1975 to 2006 and does not qualify for full VA dental benefits, says, “It’s been awhile since I smiled, and I don’t visit my friends because when I talk, people look at my gums and I don’t like showing my gums.”

U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Bryan McClendon lost his two front teeth at the age of 15. “I joined the Marine Corps at 17, and I’ve had partial dentures, but they broke several times in the military,” he shares.

Bryan, who served from 1985 to 1993, including a deployment in Operation Desert Storm, adds, “I don’t smile a lot, and when I do, I’ve learned to adjust – that’s our motto in the Marine Corps: adapt and overcome.”

After arriving on the front lines of Vietnam in 1970, U.S. Army Veteran Dayton Stout was wounded twice in the same battle. “I was out for about a month, and they sent me back into the jungle to fight,” shares Dayton, who is a Combat Wounded Veteran of the Vietnam War after serving from 1970 to 1972. “When I first came back from Vietnam, garbage and rotten vegetables were thrown at me by protesters and that just stuck with me.” He adds, “That response broke my heart. I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t think I’d be turned against by my own people.”

“When we went to the dentist, we wondered how we were going to be able to get my brother the dental care he needed … and then she came back and told us that she was going to do this for free for Veterans Day,” explains Charles Summer, whose brother, John, a U.S. Air Force Veteran, received the gift of free dental care from Dr. Cheryll Howard on Veterans Day.

“In the World we’ve been living in, it’s unheard of to receive this kind of gift,” says Charles, who also served in the U.S. Air Force. “It’s greatly appreciated.”

“My brother is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and I’m taking care of him as his younger brother,” explains Charles. “We can now save money to go for his Alzheimer’s care.”
